Shadowrun Journals

Posted: June 22, 2012 in Tabletop, Writings

My bi-weekly gaming group has been playing shadowrun for the last couple of sessions.  In between sessions myself and some of the other players like to fill in some of the role playing with some creative writing.  These are the journals of my charachter Shanka Duvalier aka Doctor Blue.  He is a Troll Shaman that unfortunately has gremlins and a bit of bad luck.

Shanka Duvalier’s journal.

Bout time dis ting started workin right. Dont know what sharkey did but at least i can get de recording goin again. Sometimes I dont know why I left the Island. My mom said that trolls like us gotta find a way. When the superstitious norms blamed us for the outbreak and ran through the town i though i was finished. Then the spirits started speakin ta me. I made my way around for a while helping out at one of the tourist places.

One day those nice corp guys come in offer me a cushy job just help em with some experiments and talk to the spirits for them. They told me they were doing good, helping people. stuff just wuld not work right though. Equipment failed wierd stuff just happend then one day one of the secure maglocked doors shorted out and i dont knwo why but i went in. what a fool i was. They were ** static buzz** damn ting.. Well just like that i was out tey took my place and left me stranded in seatlle of all places cold rainy and on the street.
I was able to make a few creds helping people and puttin on little street shows but just didnt know where to go next. Then this chicka comes looking for me, may have a bit of a job. when I got to the place it was well better than under the bridge. Th other guys are lookin pretty ratty too gear boy, quickblade, and the ex-mil says hes a sniper but i tell yah de booze he buys would not make the best offerin. they say we need to take on a wendigo maybe bring some good back into this world.

From one adventure to the next

I’m having alot of fun being a DM gettign to lead, and follow the charachters through the story is soo much fun .  But I think its almost time to start winding down this adventure.  I’m sure these charachters will be back for another adventure but i also think it is a good time for a break. Shadowrun is my new obsession thanks to reading Crossroads by Stephen Kenson and the  Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter which i still need to put some money towards cause it looks soo awesome.  Day of Gaming 2 will be a shadowrun game and i’m hoping i can do Shadowrun justice.

So i’ve collected some creative writing from some of the players in a Bi-Weekly D&D game we’ve been playing.  Our games tend to run about 2-3 hours and sometimes alot of the time ends up being combat heavy.  Some of the players have started writing pieces to fill in the backstory and add some perspective to the game.  I love it and am stoked to have such creative and entusiastic people to play with.

I see Sevyn grab the book again and a smile comes to my face. He may have been the hide and seek king of our childhood but I was the only one who found him…sometimes…

After the nights festivities in the bar and the troubling events in the church I haul myself up and move over to my adoptive brother to finally begin reading over his shoulder. His tales of our Daraken’s storytelling powers makes me wonder if he missed his calling as a bard.

He keeps it in the same pocket of his backpack. Every night I see him writing in that thing and curiosity gets the better of me. The practice of obtaining something from the elf has become simple. As my powers grow I see people stop looking at me, stop seeing me, their eyes slide away from me as if I didn’t exist, I am becoming the Unseen.

Tonight we have bid the Lizard People farewell; and with them, Buri. She is remaining behind to train with one of their elders, to harness that rage that’s been unlocked within her. The Elder says that the drink that they have given us after we celebrated defeating the Black Dragon, showed Buri her new path; one of warrior who relies on rage.

I almost chuckle to myself, when the Elder told me that. Clearly he has not seen Buri and Ajax in action.

Dear journal,
Darkness is my home. I watch. I wait. I kill. Everyone is very busy in the lizard folk village. All seems quiet and peaceful. Hunting and rebuilding started on day one. I loped around the village playing with the children, they thought I was a human child, I entertain them with my sleight of hand tricks and my balancing act. The mirth and joy do not last into the night. One the first night I try to sleep but it eludes me. A smell in the night air calls out to me whispering a word of warning. I know this smell.

I leave the small hill we have our bedrolls on and I begin a perimeter walk. Everyone dozes, except that elf.
